Self Care Matters

Do you know how important looking after yourself really is? I just celebrated another birthday and every decade the importance of my own self-care has become more and more obvious. I see so many women who feel

  • lost
  • anxious,
  • misunderstood,
  • are unhealthy,
  • sad
  • depressed and have no idea of how or what to do for themselves. Are you feeling any of these??

I am still here doing what I do because I have a passion to help women of all ages take care of what matters most. That’s you! !!

I also know, by experience, how hard it can be to embrace the concept of self-care not to mention the concept of change. We all know that self-care is essential because you have to put on your own oxygen mask before you can help others.

However, for some of us self-care can seem so foreign, especially if you grew up with family that never practiced it. Most of us did not learn self-care from our busy Moms.

When we are feeling our best both physically and emotionally we are more resilient and more able to handle life’s daily stress. When we aren’t happy or healthy we easily get anxious, depressed, overwhelmed and emotional disconnected to ourselves.

Healthy diet and exercise lead to major improvements in overall health indeed. A soak in the tub, a walk in nature, reading a good book or other forms of pampering can revitalize you too.

The relaxation you get from it can trigger the relaxation response which can prevent chronic stress from damaging your health, so in a sense, self-care is good for you inside and out.

Equally imports is tending to our emotional needs. If we don’t, we can end up feeling resentful, not worthy and living as a martyr to everyone else’s demands.

Self-care reduces the negative effects of stress, supports our health and well-being and enhances our relationships.

When you practice self-care, you are able to step back from the situation and not be so apt to be triggered into a stress reaction.

Taking time to care for yourself regularly can make you a better caretaker for others.
